About

Local lodge 1487 was chartered on July 3rd 1945. The lodge was located in a storefront on 63rd St. On the South side of Chicago, just a few blocks east of Midway Airport. In the early 60’s as the membership began moving to O’Hare from Midway, the lodge moved to another storefront on North Avenue in Northlake.
The membership voted to build its own hall which was completed in June of 1966 at 50 W. Oakton St. in Des Plaines Illinois.
The completion of the hall was fortuitous as the membership struck their respective airlines on July 8, 1966. It would have been difficult to properly conduct such a major strike without our own facility. The new hall was a blessing. The airlines on strike all at once were United, TWA , NWA , National ,and EAL. Wages were an important facet of this strike. The federal government (under President Lyndon Johnson) attempted to place a limit of 3.2% on any wage increase. The members rejected one agreement while on strike as it did not meet their aspirations and ultimately, the members broke the 3.2 wage guideline. The strike ended on August 19, 1966
